Patternmaking in the half scale

March 19, 2012

This is my first half-scale dress pattern. I was really interested in the gathered details, so I wanted to try those out on both the bodice and skirt. I’m pretty happy with how they turned out, except for the weird fabric on the sides that makes it look like some exaggerated side boob. But it was really exciting creating a dress from scratch. It makes me excited to try more and make some that an actual person could wear. Half-scale is a good first step, though.

I also learned how to drape a basic sloper. I plan on trying that on my full scale dress form so I can start trying full size patterns. We’ll see how it goes.
